The 2023 BMW M850i Gran Coupe Is Now Available in Vibrant Colors Edition Jeff Koons

The 8 x Jeff Koons is limited to 99 copies worldwide and costs $350,995.

  • The BMW M850i Gran Coupe 8 x Jeff Koons is a limited-edition 2023 model designed by artist Jeff Koons.
  • Its vibrant paint job is said to evoke comic-book themes and takes 285 hours per car to complete.
  • BMW will sell only 99 units worldwide, with the US version priced at $350,995.

Jeff Koons, an American artist, and BMW have collaborated once again, this time with a 2023 BMW M850i Gran Coupe as the canvas. As a result, a vibrant rolling art piece dubbed the 8 x Jeff Koons has been created, which will be limited to just 99 copies worldwide. Each model designated for the US market will cost $350,995, and pre-orders are now open.

While that price tag is roughly a quarter of a million dollars more than an un-optioned 2023 M850i Gran Coupe, which we expect to start at around $100,000, the 8 x Jeff Koons is considered a collectible rather than a daily driver. Of course, if owners choose to take the wheel, it comes equipped with a 523-horsepower twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

On the 8 x Jeff Koons, the paint job alone is 99-of-a-kind and labor-intensive. According to BMW, the process entails 11 distinct stages and takes 285 hours per vehicle. According to the company, this is one of the "most extensive custom factory production processes ever." As a result, only two cars will be manufactured each week. Each purchase includes a unique VIN number and an authenticity certificate signed by Koons and BMW CEO Oliver Zipse.

The vibrant coloring is not limited to the exterior; Koons' customization extends inside the M850i as well. The blinding red and blue seats are designed to evoke both BMW's M performance division and comic-book superheroes, according to BMW. Indeed, the upholstery appears to be suitable for a Spider-Man suit. Additionally, there is a badge that reads "The 8 x Jeff Koons" along with the artist's signature on the retractable cover located at the front of the center console.

BMW previously collaborated with Koons on a 2010 M3 GT2 art car that was even more vibrant than this new M850i. Even better, the E92 M3 raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 8 x Jeff Koons is not expected to compete in any sanctioned races, but it will be on display in New York from April 1 to 4 following its digital debut today at the Frieze Los Angeles art show. On the final day, Christie's will auction off one car, with all proceeds benefiting charity.
