Subaru WRX CVT 2022 Review

Although its 258 lb-ft of maximum torque now peaks at 2,000 rpm, there was still a significant amount of turbo lag, especially when the car was in the wrong "gear." We could fix that in the manual car by constantly keeping the turbo spooled up in the higher RPMs, but it's more difficult to adjust the SPT here to get the same results. The SPT accelerates quickly—quick enough for any casual driver—getting from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, which is one-tenth longer than the manual WRX. This discrepancy is predictable given that the SPT weighs 63 kg more as a result of the gearbox and safety equipment.

Those who don't want three pedals can choose the SPT without feeling bad about it. It naturally requires less input from the driver, but because of this, it actually seems more relaxing while driving, enabling us to focus on the WRX's other enhanced details. The SPT isn't as physically or acoustically unpleasant as it once was because to improved cabin insulation. The only things that confused us were the odd speed at which it downshifted and the lack of any engine movement when we withdrew the paddle. Though the manual receives higher fuel ratings, the SPT is really potentially more fuel-efficient. The SPT's average fuel economy is 10.8 L/100 km, which isn't bad but is a bit more than that of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Honda Civic Si. Additionally, Subaru advises using premium 91-octane gas for the engine.

Less body roll and lean than before, the WRX strikes an outstanding mix between comfort and rigidity. In relation to that, the ride is arguably the biggest change for 2022 because it is more comfortable than before. It is less harsh on the road, better damped when navigating rough surfaces, and doesn't get unsteady with little road bumps.
